NEW SUMMER ANIME (DRAWING) CLASSES NOW AVAILABLE

Arts After School classes are once a week throughout the school year, 9 month program, following Sumner County public school calendars, and take place at the Hendersonville Arts Council in historic Monthaven.

Each class is limited in size in order to give more individualized instruction.

Programs for children ages 6+. Students attend class once a week. It teaches color theory, drawing, painting, clay, sculpture and printmaking. Grades 1 -3 are taught by Tracy Givens (note – Kindergarden considered with trial class) and grades 4+ by Sandra Kandros, both of whom are professional teachers in the Sumner County school district (Hendersonville High School & Shaefer Middle). Sandra’s high school students accumulated over $100,000 in collegiate Art scholarships in 2015 and she has developed the only Advanced Placement program in the Sumner School system). 

Tuition per month is $45 dollars per student or discounted to $405  for full term payment. 
Class Supplies: A non refundable fee of $42.50 made payable to the art teacher, or paid online is due with registration. This fee covers Art supply costs for the year. Students may be asked to bring certain supplies such as a tee shirt for printing or other special chosen projects.

Arts After School will produce a small reception for the children to showcase their masterpieces to family. We’ll have light snacks and beverages and will emulate a real professional art show. This is a great opportunity for the children to communicate detailed concepts they developed and implemented in their works to others. It also serves as a fun photo opportunity because the art is hung in our professional Art gallery.

SOLD OUT – Anime After School is for students ages 9+ and has class Tuesdays 4:30-6pm. For fans of drawing, ComiCon, Janaimation, Manga, etc.  Holly Errigo MS has her Masters Degree, teaches at Hawkins Middle. She has also conducted workshops & camps at the Frist & Cheekwood. Registration is $45 + Tuition per month of $45 dollars per student or if you pay $225  for the 5 month term (non-refundable) there is no registration fee. Also required non refundable supply fee of $25 paid directly to the teacher upon the first class.

Private Piano &/or Voice Lessons (Wednesdays): CLOSED

H.Arts Music Lessons – learn to read and perform music in a safe, centrally located venue (historic Monthaven). Home Schoolers welcome.

All skills levels, all age levels, including adults, 9+

Classes are 30 minutes. Wednesdays, beginning at Noon (Kathy Lehman). Other day and time availability possibilities with additional teachers, to be confirmed. Email us with your interest age, and level (beginner – advanced).

Cost $100 per month, 25 minute class.

Music Teacher : Kathy Lehman – has her Bachelors of Music from Belmont University and Master of Curriculum and Instruction from Trevecca University. She taught for 34 years in Sumner County at various schools such as Merrol Hyde Magnet, where she was also Choral Director and voted “Teacher of the Year”, Nanny Berry, Indian Lake, and Hawkins Middle (“Teacher of the Year”). Her husband is a multi-Grammy Award winning producer and they have been married for 43 years with two grown daughters and two grandchildren.

Art Class :

Kids will learn to implement and identify the Elements of Art and Principals of Design from Bettye Zettergren.  The use of multi media and art techniques will be explored in our classes. Students will be introduced to art history.  Multicultural art projects will enrich learning from cultures around the world. Look forward to Fun with hands on experiences. Paint shirts will be provided. Bettye Zettergren – received her BA in art education from the University of Mississippi. Bettye attended O’ More College of Design and has worked as an interior designer for 35 yrs.  She owned her own business and work room for 25 years and is now employed part time for Dandelion Interiors.  For several years Bettye taught at T.W. Hunter Middle school, Beech High School, and Merrol Hyde Magnet.  She has been married to Al Zettergren for 34 years. They have two grown children Zack and Liz and three grandchildren- Carlee(who attends MHMS elementary) Grant and Luke.

Middle Tennessee Community Choir & Music Academy – CLOSED

Show Choirs (or Glee Club) for Kindergarten-8th Graders

Classes are Mondays or Thursdays (TBD) from 4-6:30pm

All classes taught by mtcc founder and director, Alyson Haley (B.A.) 

This is an 8 month program, with 2 x 13 week semesters, with strong emphasis on healthy signing and development of each singer’s voice. The program includes group voice lessons, basic choreography, movement games; performance coaching; singing in unison and in parts; sight-singing and ear-training; and private lessons for 3rd-8th graders. Mtcc will also have multiple performance opportunities in some of the following : art exhibits, humanitarian fund raising events, festivals, concerts, sporting events, and a group photo shoot by a professional photographer. 

     MTCC founder and director, Alyson Haley, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, Advanced Certificate in Music Education, and Masters of Music degree (Dec. 2014) at Belmont University in Vocal Performance, where she has served as one of two merit scholarship 2012-2014 artist Fellows with the Nashville Opera.  Ms. Haley has been a professional performer and teacher for over 20 years and favorite experiences include performing with the Nashville Opera, Chaffin’s Barn Dinner Theater, and being one of eight original cast member of the Imagination Playhouse Children’s Theater at Dollywood.

Thursday Theatre Class-CLOSED 

Class options between 3pm-6pm

Theatre Class : This class will explore acting technique, stage voice, movement, mime, stage combat as well as a major emphasis on scene and monologue study and presentation. Students will be expected to rehearse and memorize short scenes and monologues outside of the class time to make their time in class the most productive it could possibly be. This class is 8 weeks and will culminate in a recital/performance of work from the class sessions.

Greg Wilson (Theatre) Greg Wilson has been a Hendersonville resident for 16 years.He is the Founding Artistic Director of Actor’s Point Theatre Company. Greg has been acting and directing professionally and semi-professionally for over 30 years. Greg has been seen locally in many theatrical productions as well as in TV commercials and has appeared in 5 feature films to date. He is the host of two online talk radio podcast programs for ShowcaseView found on both I-Tunes and Stitcher. In addition Greg is the Producing Director of The Tennessee Shakespeare Festival. He is also a founding board member of Carpe Artista – an organization whose mission is to develop local arts communities through the nurturing of young creatives to reach their full potential in character, calling, craft and community. In addition, Wilson is a respected acting teacher and acting coach in the greater Nashville area coaching many area actors for commercial, television, and theatrical roles. In fall of 2012, Greg was named the Artist in Residence for the theatre department of Martin Methodist University.

Conducted by Jerry Grubbs :

Jerry Grubbs is a native Tennessean who currently lives in Hendersonville.  He started painting after retirement in 2008, fulfilling a long held dream.  Although primarily self-taught, Jerry has studied with several local artist as well as taking classes with Igor Babailov, Mary Miller Veazey, Annie Tagg, Roger Dale Brown and Rebecca Neef.

Jerry’s work is in private collections in Middle Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, and Texas.  He has had works in The Gallery on Fifth, Second Floor Gallery at Tennessee Art League, Art and Invention Gallery and Gallery on the Square in Franklin, Kentucky.  He has also sold works in local art shows.  In the spring of 2012 his work was featured in a one person show at Towne Centre Gallery in Brentwood.

His work has been exhibited in various businesses in Hendersonville and Nashville.  A piece was sold in support of charitable activities of the Nashville Corvette Club.  His work was shown and sold in the Earl Swensson and Associates, AIA, show and sale in support of the American Heart Association.

Jerry has taught beginning oil painting at Studio G in Hendersonville and is now teaching a weekly class at Monthaven Mansion for the Hendersonville Arts Council.
