If you are looking for a studio to do your Art, we have a wonderful facility & membership who enjoy painting together. The only requirement is a $50 annual membership. We’ll even store your unfinished pieces and supplies !


April 2017 Mother’s Day Out Watercolor Class. 10am-Noon, Thursdays. 

By the end of the 4 weeks, you will have completed 3 pieces and take home instruction booklets for continuing once the class is over.

The four week coarse is $85 and the instructor, retired professor, Susan Brandt (Vol State) will be supplying you with a supply list, once registered.

Some items we have available here at the Arts Council and the list will include discount codes from a preferred vendor.

About the Teacher

For 40 years, artist and craftsman Timothy Weber has worked in clay. He has also been regional and state arts administrator, teacher, gallery owner and arts advocate.

Weber has participated in national juried festivals such as American Craft council markets in Dallas, St. Louis, Tampa, Charlotte, Chicago, and the American Artisan festival in Nashville. The Tennessee State Museum, Bellsouth, and the Japanese Embassy in America are a few of the organizations that collect his work. Weber has taught at Vanderbilt University, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, University of Alabama, Denmark’s Danish Folk School and has been a mentor in apprentice programs for TACA.

About the Class

This workshop will be referred to as a clay experience focusing on a variety of hand-building techniques employing these techniques to make a piece or several pieces. The class will spend time talking form and surface. The workshop will also include demonstration and Tim Weber will show slides of the work that has been doing the past few years. Students will have the option of having their work bisque fired and possibly glazed and returned to the Arts Council for pick up.

Beginner Songwriting Workshop- CLOSED

10:30am – 2:00pm

$10 per person. 20 person limit

This workshop is for beginner musicians who want to write songs. They will learn structure, composition, and how to create an accessible song. By the end of the workshop, students will have created a song, partially or fully, as time permits.  Keyboardists and guitarists are encouraged to bring their instruments. Monthaven has 2 refrigerators so bringing a sack lunch is encouraged. Bottled water and sodas are available. Workshop presented by the VSA and H.A.C., taught by JP Williams :

JP Williams is a Nashville-based performing songwriter signed to renowned publisher Major Bob Music. He had a number one song on the national gospel charts recorded by Brian Free & Assurance. JP has performed everywhere from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and colleges throughout the Northeast U.S. to pubs in Ireland on assignment for Budget Travel Magazine. Along the way, he’s opened for Charlie Daniels, Ricky Skaggs and Randy Travis, to name a few. He has a music degree from University of Tennessee.

Adult Hand Build Vase Workshop-CLOSED

Time: 10:30-12:30

Date:   March 8th

Cost:  25.00 each

Limit-15 seats

This workshop is for adults and all skill levels.  We will be creating a one of a kind vase out of a slab with step-by-step instructions.  You will learn basic hand building techniques, and decorate your vases in a variety of ways with adding on shapes, stamping, and carving into the clay. You will glaze pottery during class.  All pottery is returned after firing process.

Home & Craft Brewing Workshop-CLOSED

Time: 10:30-12:30

Cost:  $15

Limit-15 seats

This workshop is for adults and all skill levels.This workshop is for adults 21 and over. We will go over the steps that would occur once the brewing process is complete. You will learn some of the history behind the beer you drink and how “Craft Beer” got to be such a big force. We will be brewing a batch of homebrewed beer together on the stove top just like you would do at home.  The beer we brew will have to ferment for several weeks before it can be consumed, but there may just be a sample or two along the way.

Studio Art Class-CLOSED

Tuesday nights 6:30-7:30pm 

In this studio class, we will create some amazing artwork while increasing our artistic knowledge and strengths.   Each project will be focused on three factors.  First, we will draw inspiration for our projects from a master artist, a group of artists, or an art movement.  Second, we will learn the elements of art such as color theory, line, and perspective.  Finally, we will explore various artistic media.  We will further our knowledge of basic artistic media, as well as exploring some exciting contemporary ones.  By knowing the rules of art, we have the freedom to break them into expressions of our individual creativity.

Mommy and Me Clay Workshop – March 29

Have fun learning clay with your child in this class.  This class is fun and educational as your child will pound, roll and sculpt their way to creativity with your help. Of course, if mom cannot come dads are welcome too. Wear clothes to get messy in. Project will be completed in class.

Ever wanted to throw a pot on the wheel!!! Now’s your chance.

Each person will make their own pot on the wheel with the help of Mrs. Sharon and build a small heart hand building project too. This is a fun and educational workshop for ages 7 and up. Great for the whole family to do. We will be creating one of a kid works of art to glaze in class.  All skill level welcome.
